A big hello to all of you interested in “The Summer Help” documentary! As you may know, this film documents the ups and downs of international college students who come to the U.S.A. to work as the summer help in restaurants, amusement parks, hotels in tourist towns and resorts. I can’t tell you how grateful I am for the contributions and support so far. Just thinking about the fact that there are 80 (80!) people who have donated toward the completion of this film means so much to me and warms my heart. (More about the campaign here: http://www.bit.ly/TheSummerHelp)
A few updates for you since the Kickstarter started. NuBoyana Film Studio (www.nuboyana.com) has offered to come on board to help with the final round of editing (color correction and sound design). This is a very exciting development because NuBoyana is the largest film studio in Eastern Europe so their support is a great plus for the documentary!
Also, we had a party in Chicago at the Music Box Theater to show a sneak preview of clips to some funders (and future funders, we hope!). I got some encouraging feedback and I am excited to continue sharing clips of the film with others. Let me know if there is anyone you know who would like to host a house party or get together to discuss the film. Have rough cut, will travel!
So where things stand right now is that we are at almost 35% funded, but we still have a loooong way to go to get to the final goal. If you know anyone– anyone!- who might be interested in this subject (or they just want to support true independent filmmaking), I would be grateful if you sent them an old-fashioned email telling them why you think this film is interesting and how to contribute – (Trailer and info here: www.bit.ly/TheSummerHelp). Research shows that direct email (not just sharing on social media) is where the most support comes from.
That’s it for now. Thanks again for your support and being part of my newest filmmaking journey! I will continue to update you as things progress.
Yours in Docs, Melody
